THE WEST ISLAND HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES CENTRE (HSSC) KNOWS HOW TO PERFORM!

On Tuesday, June 21, the Association québécoise d’établissements de santé et de services sociaux (AQESSS) published its Rapport d’évaluation globale et intégrée on Quebec's 95 HSSCs. The report clearly shows that, in spite of the shortage of human, financial and material resources at the West Island HSSC, the organization has outstanding performances in several areas.

"As Executive Director, I could not have been happier with the results of this report. It is a fine recognition of the strength of our HSSC and of each individual's work," stressed Suzanne Turmel, Executive Director of the West Island HSSC.
The institution is a top performer because it offers quality care efficiently and effectively while adapting to the needs of the population. The HSSC also reports a low rate of nosocomial infections.

"We already know about our weak points and we're working very hard to improve them. We're on the right track," said Ms. Turmel. Where there are weaknesses, the HSSC can use the report to identify areas that are performing well and others that need improvement. For example, the number of 48 hours in Emergency is one area of concern and management is working constantly to improve the situation.

The West Island HSSC comprises the CLSC de Pierrefonds, the CLSC du Lac-Saint-Louis, the Centre d’hébergement Denis-Benjamin-Viger and Lakeshore General Hospital. The HSSC serves a population of over 218,000 people. No fewer than 2,100 employees and some 250 physicians (family doctors and specialists) work in the Centre, along with over 300 volunteers.
